WebbSlugging barrels is a process by which an oversized, soft (pure) piece of lead is driven through a rifle or handgun barrel. The idea is to determine a rifled barrel’s diameter across its grooves. This is so cast bullets can be purchased or home-sized to fit, preferably at or about .001 inch over groove diameter. There are two questions involved. Webb18 okt. 2008 · One technique is to put a brass rod that is just under bore size and about 12 inches long into the bore and then drive an oversize lead slug into the muzzle. Once the slug is driven in far enough to be etched by the rifling you repeatedly tip the barrel back and forth to make the brass rod hammer the slug out.
